Welcome to the California Alliance for Road Safety (CARS), Inc.
We are a statewide alliance of traffic safety professionals, educators, and industry leaders working together to make California’s roads safer for everyone.
We were founded on a simple but powerful belief: education saves lives.
CARS brings together the people who are on the front lines of driver education and behavior change every day — traffic safety educators, program providers, and safety advocates — to strengthen the quality, reach, and impact of road safety education across California.
Our Purpose:
CARS exists to advance effective, evidence-informed traffic safety education that protects drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and communities.
We serve as a collaborative forum where professionals and community leaders can:
Share best practices in traffic safety education
Support high-quality, consistent learning standards
Promote responsible driver behavior
Strengthen public awareness about roadway risks
Work together to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities
Our focus is not just on correcting mistakes — it’s about preventing them through better education, smarter engagement, and a culture of shared responsibility on the road.
What Makes CARS Different
Unlike a single program or school, CARS is an alliance.
That means:
We bring together voices from across the traffic safety education field
We focus on collaboration, not competition
We support innovation in how road safety education is delivered
We connect industry experience with public safety goals
Our organization understands that traffic safety is not just about rules — it’s about human behavior, decision-making, and lifelong learning.
Who We Serve
CARS works to benefit:
Drivers of all ages and experience levels
Families and communities impacted by roadway crashes
Schools and organizations providing traffic safety education
Public safety partners and community stakeholders
Ultimately, our work supports every Californian who uses the road — whether behind the wheel, on a bike, or crossing the street.
Why Our Work Matters
California’s roads are among the busiest in the nation, and traffic crashes remain a leading cause of injury and loss of life. Most drivers receive formal education only once — at the time of licensure — even though vehicles, laws, technology, and roadway risks are constantly evolving.
CARS was formed to help close that gap by strengthening ongoing traffic safety education and promoting a culture where learning about safe driving doesn’t stop after getting a license.
Because safer drivers mean safer roads.
And safer roads mean stronger communities.
